Letter To My Daughter by Dr. Maya Angelou
Letter To My Daughter is the third book of essays Dr. Maya Angelou wrote and this letter is dedicated to all young women, who she refers to as her daughters. She shares some of her encounters as a young black woman and mother, lessons she learned and how she conquered challenges she endured. Indeed she’s a phenomenal woman! The book is highly inspirational and full of Maya Angelou’s veracious wisdom. Her letter comprises of short essays and poetry. My favorite short essay is titled Commencement Address. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book, you can read it in one sitting. The book is described as a handbook that is filled with life learning lessons. I do intend on rereading the book and sharing it with other young women.
What I Know For Sure by Oprah Winfrey
World Renowned television host, businesswoman, and philanthropist Oprah Winfrey has several best-seller books. This book consists of themes, which are the chapters, and each theme is thoroughly explained with a personal encounter and ends off with a lesson Oprah uncovered relating to the theme. Towards the end of each theme, she starts the last paragraph with ‘What I know for sure…’ The book provides readers with a brief snippet of Oprah’s upbringing, family, friends, and career. I enjoyed reading this book and have highlighted several paragraphs and definitions of some themes. This book will definitely leave you inspired!
